Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, has called the conflict with Ukraine and the West a new patriotic war. The politician said that Russia would win it, as it did in 1812 and 1945.
European Union diplomatic chief Josep Borrell earlier described Russia as accustomed to fighting to the end, mentioning its victories over Napoleon and Hitler.
“Well done, though, this Borrel with a poker face. He remembered that our country defeated Napoleon and Hitler. Note that it was he who drew the analogy himself. Accordingly, the Ukranazis and Western Europe are the direct heirs of those who fought against Russia. And the war, therefore, is a new Fatherland war with them. And the victory will be ours. As in 1812 and 1945,” Medvedev wrote in his Telegram-channel.
