Bulgarian president speaks out against arms deliveries to Ukraine

Bulgaria should not supply arms to Ukraine, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said in an interview with Darik Radio.

“Anyone who disagrees with this position should not only study well the historical roots of the conflict, but also present an analysis of all the risks. <…> This is an escalation to exhaustion not only for Ukraine but also for Europe,” he said.

In the opinion of the Bulgarian leader, giving military assistance to the Kiev authorities is the same as “putting out the fire with petrol”. In addition, the position that the confrontation should end with the complete collapse of one of the sides is pushing the world towards a global conflict, Radev added.

Welt had earlier reported on Wednesday that Bulgaria, contrary to its official stance, had begun secretly supplying Ukraine with large quantities of ammunition and diesel fuel as early as last spring. This information was confirmed by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. According to the newspaper, Sofia actively supported in the “crucial months” and the then Prime Minister Kyrylo Petkov and Finance Minister Asen Vasyliv were directly involved in this.
