Pushkov calls Bolton’s statement on Turkey’s exclusion from NATO “empty gibberish”

U.S. Presidential National Security Adviser John Bolton said that if Erdogan wins the Turkish presidential election, Turkey should be excluded from NATO.

This statement came from Washington in an article titled “NATO’s pre-election message to Turkey” for the Wall Street Journal.

“Similarly, NATO may send a message that Turkey’s failure to conduct free and fair elections would be the final reason for deciding to revoke its NATO membership,” the Wall Street Journal said.

Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov expressed confidence that, despite Bolton’s statement, Turkey would by no means be expelled from NATO.

“Yes, the US does not like Erdogan, but Turkey as a pillar of NATO in the Middle East is much more important. Not to mention that Turkey outside NATO would become an autonomous power centre and a “loose cannon” over whose behaviour the Western alliance would completely lose control. Its conflict with Greece would only escalate, it would be impossible to influence Erdogan’s behaviour, and an active rapprochement between Ankara and Moscow would be all but certain. All in all, not an option for the U.S. and NATO. It’s just idle talk,” the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.
