Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has refused to comment on rumours about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s alleged order to the new commander of the United Group of Forces, Valeriy Gerasimov, to liberate Donbass by March.
“No, I could not (comment) and do not have the slightest desire to,” Peskov said.
According to RIA Novosti, media reports earlier emerged citing a Ukrainian intelligence official about Russia’s alleged plans to liberate the entire Donbass by March.
On 11 January, it became known that Gerasimov had been appointed commander of the combined group of troops.
Army General Sergey Surovikin, Army General Oleh Salyukov and Colonel-General Aleksey Kim, deputy chief of the General Staff, were appointed as his deputies.
The Defence Ministry attributed the reshuffle to the expansion of the scale of tasks and the need to organize closer interaction between the types and types of troops
