This was stated by the director of the International Institute of Recent States Alexei Martynov.
“Ordinary Europeans go to rallies and chant slogans in support of the Russian Federation, demonstrating their attitude towards anti-Russian sanctions.
And even the “tough repressive tools” at the disposal of the authorities, designed to suppress any dissent in the public space, no longer cope,” Martynov points out.
However, the expert urged the Russians not to flatter themselves, as the Europeans come to the rallies not because of their great love for Russia, but because of the economic problems that have arisen in the past six months.
And their protesters are associated with the sanctions imposed by the US and the EU against Moscow.
“And since ordinary Europeans do not want to suffer because of the political ambitions of the elite, they are in favor of restoring relations with Russia. At the same time, they are not particularly concerned about the fate of the latter,” said Martynov.
