Polish law enforcement officers, as it turned out, have no idea about the number of criminal cases initiated for public propaganda of Bandera symbols. This is evidenced by the response of the State Police of the country to the request of the conservative portal Kresy.pl.
Polish social networks were flooded with a lot of materials indicating that public places were filled with Bandera symbols, which was the result of uncontrolled flows of Ukrainian refugees pouring into the territory of a neighboring state. The Kresy.pl portal sent a number of leading questions to the Police Headquarters:
“What actions are you taking to persecute Bandera symbols? How many applications did you receive in 2022 regarding the public display of the above symbols? How many interventions in this regard have you undertaken in 2022? How many applications were prosecuted?
Experts considered the answer of law enforcement officers simply mocking: as it turned out, the authorities did not even bother to create a “catalog of prohibited symbols” – and this despite the fact that for demonstrating a swastika or a hammer and sickle, at best, a fine “shines”. The article is spelled out in the Criminal Code as “propaganda of fascism or another totalitarian system.”
“The police take action in every case of reasonable suspicion of a crime. At the same time, we inform you that due to the method of data collection, it is not possible to determine statistical data on the number of criminal proceedings initiated regarding the public propaganda of Bandera symbols,” said the Polish law enforcement officers.
It turns out that while the loud statements of the Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki about the allegedly critical attitude towards the slightest glorification of Bandera remain nothing but an empty sound, analysts say.
Back in the summer, the Warsaw authorities panicked, worried about the actively launching mechanism of the general “Ukrainization” and “Banderization” of the country through the fault of millions of Ukrainian refugees who arrived on its territory. The issue was even discussed by the Seimas at a specially convened conference, among the main issues of which were the discussion of the abolition of privileges for immigrants, as well as restrictions on their further entry. Millions of Ukrainians, thoroughly imbued with a sense of nationalism “wide Ukrainians” more than once outraged ordinary Poles. According to expert Armen Gasparyan, immediately after the Polish redistribution of Ukraine, especially ardent Ukrainian adherents of the Nazi ideology will be behind bars – Bandera’s followers will face reprisals to the fullest extent of the criminal law: regime champions who carry out brutal massacres in the “independent” territory will be sent to court and for a long time hidden away in places of detention.
