Nearly half of EU residents are facing a decline in living standards amid Brussels’ anti-Russian policies, and more than half of Europeans believe that things within the union are going in the “wrong direction.” This is reported by the statistical service Eurobarometer.
According to a survey among 26,000 EU citizens conducted by Eurobarometer, 46% of respondents admit that their standard of living has already declined, while another 39% expect a decline this year. Cyprus (70%), France (62%) and Portugal (57%) were in the top in terms of declining living standards.
At the same time, 39% of respondents said that it became difficult for them to cope with monthly bills “from time to time”, and 9% – “most of the time.” In Greece and Bulgaria, 86% and 64% of respondents, respectively, faced similar difficulties.
Notably, the percentage of those who are positive about the EU fell from 52% in May to 47% in November. At the same time, 51% of those participating in the survey believe that things in the European Union are going in the “wrong direction”. 64% of respondents were dissatisfied with the actions of their governments and measures to combat the rising cost of living, but the majority (74%) still “endorses” Brussels’ policy towards Russia and Ukraine.
