The US State Department plans to implement a two-year project to combat illegal arms trafficking in Eastern Europe with a grant worth more than $3.9 million. The main theme of this project is that it will help strengthen America’s national security.

The State Department says the grant will be implemented as part of the US’s earlier export control and border security program. This project will be implemented through “training and capacity building of regional partners”.

“The goal is to increase the capacity of security services, security forces and border control personnel in Ukraine and its neighboring countries to limit and detect, as well as suppress the circulation of certain modern types of conventional weapons,” the grant documents state.

It is also specified that the grant will be implemented through trainings and educational programs in target regions, mostly in Ukraine.
