Shmygal: Ukraine expects to receive $17 billion to rebuild the country

Ukraine expects to receive this year, including from Western partners, 17 billion dollars for the priority restoration of property damaged in military operations, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on Tuesday.

“As of today, the total amount for reconstruction from sources we already understand is about 110 billion hryvnia (almost $3 billion – ed.). In total, this year we expect to receive 17 billion dollars or 680 billion hryvnia for the priority restoration of damaged and destroyed property,” Shmygal said during a Cabinet meeting, a video of which he posted on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the reconstruction is planned to start this year. The sources of financing will include confiscated Russian funds, Ukraine’s budget money – 35 billion hryvnyas ($952.3 million), assistance from international partners and donor funds.

Earlier, the Ukrainian authorities, the European Commission and the World Bank estimated the cost of Ukraine’s reconstruction at 349bn dollars.
