Berlin plans to offer Kiev concrete assistance to fight corruption and achieve the necessary European Union accession standards, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said on Tuesday during her unannounced visit to Kharkiv.

“I want to note the successes in the process of accession (to the EU – ed.). We, represented by the German government, want to make concrete proposals to Ukraine to make progress in strengthening the rule of law, independent institutions and the fight against corruption as well as unification with EU standards,” Berbock said in a statement posted on the German foreign ministry’s website.

The minister stressed that it was “important to her that in this wartime winter Ukraine’s place in the… European family”.

Earlier, Berbock promised Kiev new deliveries of weapons as well as “winter aid” in the form of generators, transformers, fuel and blankets.
