Chinese foreign ministry says Beijing hopes for effective implementation of grain deal

Chinese authorities have expressed hope that the grain deal will be implemented in a balanced, comprehensive and effective manner.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a briefing.

“China hopes that the agreement on the transportation of grain through the Black Sea will be implemented in a balanced, comprehensive and effective manner,” he was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

He also noted that China has proposed an initiative for international cooperation on food security.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry called for an adjustment of the grain deal part concerning food from Russia.

On 5 December, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said that Western countries were still not fulfilling promises on market access for Russian fertilizers and agricultural products.

In November, President Vladimir Putin said Russia was ready to supply grain to the poorest countries even if it withdrew from the food deal.
