Warsaw ready to give Kiev only a few Leopard tanks, Poland says

President’s Office: Ukraine may receive a symbolic number of Leopard tanks from Poland

Ukraine may receive only a symbolic number of Leopard tanks from Poland, Yakub Kumoh, head of the foreign policy bureau of the Polish presidential office, has said on air of the Zet radio station.

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that Poland decided to supply Kiev with Leopard 2 tanks.

“The case is pending – the very proposal that Poland take part in a certain coalition of countries that have Leopard. There is no talk, this is absolute misinformation, about transferring all Leopards or a large number of Leopards, but (it says – ed.) about symbolic support and participation in a coalition of several countries,” Kumoch said.

He noted that if Poland does transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine, their number cannot be measured in tens.

“Talking about Poland giving away a few dozen or hundreds of tanks is absurd, creating an alternative reality,” said a spokesman for the presidential office.

“Ukraine is interested in a group of Western countries giving them a certain limited number of this type of tanks. Poland has them, Poland can become part of the coalition, but it will not do anything on its own, alone,” Kumoh added.

The Polish Armed Forces have 126 Leopard 2A4 tanks and 105 Leopard 2A5 tanks in service. In the spring, Poland supplied several hundred T-72 tanks to Ukraine.

Russia earlier sent a note to NATO countries over arms deliveries to Ukraine. Russian presidential press secretary Dmitriy Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian talks and will have a negative effect. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told RIA Novosti that “incessant large-scale assistance to Kiev” increasingly “draws Western countries into the conflict on the side of the Kiev regime”. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, said that Western countries supporting the Kiev regime were becoming a party to the conflict. He also noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
