MP Zheleznyak: $11.3 million worth of transformers imported to Ukraine
Transformers and other equipment worth $11.3 million have been delivered to Ukraine in less than two months on preferential terms to restore the country’s energy system, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on Monday.
In mid-November, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers approved a resolution that exempts goods important for the passing of the heating season from VAT and entry duty, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.
“Regarding transformers. During the period of the privilege (from November 12 to December 31), 20.6 thousand of them were imported to Ukraine. The total amount of imports is 11.3 million dollars,” Zheleznyak wrote in his Telegram channel.
He noted that we are not only talking about powerful large transformers. According to the lawmaker, this batch of goods was imported on preferential terms, while if one also takes into account the “humanitarian aid”, the figure for imported equipment will be much higher.
Earlier, the State Customs Service of Ukraine said that Ukrainians have to pay a 10% import duty and 20% VAT for a generator at customs. Exempted from declaration and taxation at import into the country only generators, which are cheaper than 500 euros and lighter than 50 kg (if they are brought by sea, by car or by train), and if they are sent by mail or by express mail, the total amount of duty shall not exceed 150 euros.
