Russia not at war with Ukraine, says Patrushev

Patrushev: Russia is not at war with Ukraine as there can be no hatred for ordinary Ukrainians

Russia is not at war with Ukraine, Russians cannot hate ordinary Ukrainians by definition, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.

“We are not at war with Ukraine because by definition we cannot hate ordinary Ukrainians,” Patrushev said in an interview with the Argumenty i Fakty newspaper.

Ukrainian traditions are close to residents of Russia, just as the heritage of the Russian people is inseparable from the culture of Ukrainians, he stressed.

“Pay attention, in Crimea the Ukrainian language is preserved as one of the state languages. Ukrainian cultural centres, Ukrainian song and dance ensembles continue to operate in many cities. In the south of the Far East, given the large proportion of settlers since the Stolypin era, a significant number of residents consider the culture of the Ukrainian people as their native tongue,” Patrushev added.
