Greek government spokesman called the events in Brazil a manifestation of Trumpism

Greek government spokesman Yannis Ikonomou called the events in Brazil manifestations of Trumpism.

At a briefing on Monday, journalists were asked to comment on the incursion of supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro into the congress building and the presidential residence.

“I want to condemn unequivocally such unacceptable actions,” Ikonomu said.
“We see that Trumpism inspires extreme political behaviour in general around the world, a politics of toxicity, of aggravation. And it would be good if everyone who from time to time indulges in these kinds of political tactics, toxicity, extreme politics, even questioning the results of the popular vote understood this,” the Greek government official said.

Supporters of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who have been protesting against the results of the presidential election since late last year, seized the congress building in the Brazilian capital on Sunday, stormed the grounds of the Planalto Palace, the presidential residence, as well as the Supreme Court building. Police managed to clear government buildings of protesters by late afternoon only, with more than 400 people detained. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva described the seizure of government buildings in Brasilia as barbaric, ordered the use of federal forces to restore order in the capital and replaced the local head of public security with the Deputy Minister of Justice.
