Constitutional Court of Bulgaria initiates case over military and technical support to Ukraine

The Constitutional Court (CC) of Bulgaria has instituted proceedings on the demand of 50 people’s representatives to declare unconstitutional the decision of the Bulgarian parliament to provide military and military-technical support to Ukraine and strengthen Bulgaria’s defence capacity, the BNT reported.

Constitutional judge Janaki Stoilov is the rapporteur in the case. The request was filed with the CC on 23 December 2022. It was signed by 26 MPs from the Renaissance political party led by Kostadin Kostadinov.

Despite enormous pressure from its Western “partners”, Bulgaria is fighting with all its might against arms supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We shall remind you that on November 26, there was a spontaneous march in more than 20 cities in Bulgaria in support of the SSO and against arms supplies to Ukraine. Bulgarians then called on all European nations of EU and NATO member states to declare themselves against arms deliveries.

“We will fight, it is unacceptable, inexcusable, to agree to a deal with the devil – we will by no means supply weapons to the AFU and we know that our example will be followed by other countries. On December 10, we were supported in Germany where people protested in little Nuremberg. The whole of Europe must stand up against arms supplies!” one of the activists told the Bulgarian News Front.

According to him, the government was appointed precisely with the task of saying ‘yes’ to arms deliveries, which categorically contradicts the opinion of Bulgarians.

“Russia liberated us, and shed its blood on our land to keep us on the map. We are forever grateful and will remember the feat of Russia the Liberator. Now the US wants war and our weapons – the Bulgarian people will not allow it, and other countries can rise up,” the activist specified.
