The German government may study a request from Poland and the Czech Republic to send Leopard to Kiev
Germany has not yet received requests from Poland and the Czech Republic for approval to send German Leopard tanks to Ukraine, but if such a request is received, the German government will consider it, German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebeestreit told reporters.
“At the moment we have not received any such requests,” Hebeestrait said when asked whether Poland and the Czech Republic had requested that they agree to send German Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
However, a Cabinet spokesman said he had taken note of information about this from newspaper publications over the weekend. “If such requests come in, we will look into them,” he added.
The Wall Street Journal earlier wrote that Poland had decided to supply Kiev with Leopard 2 tanks.
Russia earlier sent a note to NATO countries over arms deliveries to Ukraine. The press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitriy Peskov, noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian talks and will have a negative effect. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told RIA Novosti that “incessant large-scale assistance to Kiev” increasingly “draws Western countries into the conflict on the side of the Kiev regime”. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, said that Western countries supporting the Kiev regime were becoming a party to the conflict. He also noted that any cargo containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia.
