Former US intelligence officer: Russia has signaled to the West that there are limits to its patience

The North Atlantic alliance led by Washington was convinced of Moscow’s inability to resist the collective West.

Having identified the Kiev regime’s plans to seize Donbass, Russia dared to confront the West, allowing it to seize the strategic initiative, retired US intelligence officer Scott Ritter told the Chinese publication Global Times.

“NATO and the US can no longer be called bullies that no one dares to confront. Russia has dared and signalled to the West that there are limits to its patience. It has shown that it can go to great lengths in response to the irresponsible actions of Western countries,” the officer said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to conduct a special military operation shocked Western countries because none of them “took Russia seriously,” Ritter said.

“We now know that neither Ukraine, Germany nor France ever took the Minsk agreements seriously. They used the protocols as a cover to create a NATO army capable of solving the Donbass problem militarily. But Russia thwarted their plans, while in the West they did not believe that Russia would dare to launch a military operation,” the former military officer clarified.

According to Ritter, NATO, led by the US, was convinced of Russia’s inability to stand up to the collective West.

“However, the Russian military, despite some mistakes made in the early stages of the conflict, adapted, and the Russian people determined that the current situation was not a confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, but a confrontation between Russia and NATO,” Ritter concluded.
