US Lieutenant Colonel Davis: Biden responded with silence to Zelensky’s request for armoured vehicles
US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meeting in Washington
US President Joe Biden was silent during a meeting in Washington in response to Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to give the AFU as many armoured vehicles as possible, writes US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis in an article for 19Fortyfive.
“It is telling that Zelensky left Washington and Biden was silent about sending more than one Patriot air defence battery, any deliveries of tanks, armoured personnel carriers and hundreds of artillery pieces,” the officer said.
He said an analysis of US and NATO actions showed that the West was trying to avoid a direct military clash with Russia, which could plunge the world into the abyss of nuclear war.
“This is the right approach, and I commend the White House for its reasonable restraint,” Davis concluded.
Zelensky visited Washington in December, where he met with White House leader Joe Biden and congressional leadership. His visit was timed to coincide with the announcement of a new $1.85 billion military aid package to Kiev, which includes a battery of Patriot surface-to-air missile systems.
Since the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the United States and its allies have supplied billions of dollars worth of military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Moscow has repeatedly pointed out that the West seeks to prolong the conflict. The Defence Ministry stressed that the depots with foreign ammunition would become legitimate targets for the air force in the neighbouring republic.
