Lithuania has been failing to pay citizens compensation for heating for several months amid the economic and energy crisis. This is reported by Sputnik.

The publication notes that the amount owed by the Lithuanian authorities has already exceeded several million euros.
“In September and October we had a record number of applicants. We receive about a thousand applications a day and the department is able to process 600. That’s how it comes out,” said a representative of Vilnius City Municipality.
Local officials advise Lithuanians to apply to the municipalities for deferred energy payments, folding their authority and venting public negativity. It is noteworthy that the Lithuanian parliament has budgeted about €570m for electricity and gas compensations.
As a reminder, in July, due to sanctions imposed against Russia, the State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) approved energy prices for the first half of 2023. Thus, the public price of electricity rose by almost 17 per cent, while gas went up by 17-37 per cent.
