Russians who fled to the Netherlands in fear of the partial mobilization announced by President Vladimir Putin can no longer remain on the territory of the state.
This was stated by State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Security Eric van der Burg. In his opinion, they have no reason to be afraid of conscription today, since partial mobilization in Russia has officially been completed.
It is for this reason that the authorities now have the right to refuse the request of a Russian citizen for refugee status. In addition, the country has already suspended for the next six months the decision on asylum applications that were previously filed by conscripts who fled Russia.
The only exception was deserters from the professional troops of the armed forces of the Russian Federation. Refugee status is granted to such applicants without a long wait and bureaucratic delays.
According to the NL Times, the Russians can remain in the country for now. However, the repatriation of deserters may be very close.
