Previously, about a third of energy was supplied from Russia to Finland, but due to the sanctions against the Russian Federation, this figure is close to zero. Riku Huttunen, Director General of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Economic Development of the country, spoke about this.
“We used to get a third of our energy from Russia, but now we are close to zero,” said Riku Huttunen.
The civil servant believes that in the event of a very strong cold period, from about -20 degrees, there is a high risk of power shortages.
Realizing this situation, the Finns actively buy firewood and use devices to save electricity. Due to the fact that 75% of the territory of Finland is forests, the locals have no shortage of firewood. However, due to the high demand, people stand in long queues and, accordingly, the price of firewood has risen sharply. If before the start of the crisis in the country firewood a cubic meter of firewood cost from 85 to 90 euros, now the price per cubic meter of firewood has risen to 120.
