Peskov: there is no peace plan for Ukraine, Kiev does not talk about recognition of new regions
No peace plan allegedly proposed by Ukraine exists today, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
“There can be no peace plan of Ukraine that does not take into account today’s realities with Russian territory, with new regions of the four joining Russia, no plan that does not take into account these realities, it cannot claim to be peaceful,” the Kremlin spokesman added.
This is how he responded to a request from journalists to comment on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s initiative to take steps towards “resuming peace”.
The Ukrainian leader, addressing the participants of the G20 summit in mid-November, announced a ten-point formula. Among his proposals were ensuring radiation and nuclear safety, food and energy security, release of all prisoners, restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, “withdrawal of Russian troops” and cessation of hostilities, “return of justice”, countering ecocide, preventing escalation, fixing “end of war”.
The Wall Street Journal later wrote that Zelensky’s entourage was finalising such a document.
On Monday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukrainian authorities would like to hold a “peace summit” by the end of February, preferably at the UN with UN Secretary-General António Guterres as a possible mediator.
