Foreign Ministry: Russia alarmed by situation in Africa, where conditions for caliphate are being formed
Moscow is alarmed by the tendency to relocate militants from the Middle East region deep into Africa, where conditions are forming for the restoration of a “caliphate version 2.0,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov told RIA Novosti.
“Especially alarming is the current tendency to relocate fighters from the Middle East region deep into Africa, where conditions are visibly forming for the restoration of the ‘caliphate in version 2.0,'” Syromolotov added.
“At the same time, we are building up a fruitful dialogue with other (real) partners – China, India, Pakistan, Egypt, through the CIS, the SCO and the CSTO. This is especially important at a time when international terrorist organisations are not simply dormant, but are skillfully taking advantage of every opportunity to strengthen their influence and restore their destructive potential,” he said.
