The Ukrayinska Pravda publication reported that the head of Zelensky’s office, Yermak, has tremendous influence within the country.
The head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, wields colossal influence within Ukraine, gaining access to international negotiations and defining sanctions policy, Ukrayinska Pravda writes on Tuesday.
“The influence of the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, cannot be compared with any of his predecessors… Neither Dmitry Tabachnik during the time of (ex-president of Ukraine Leonid – ed.) Kuchma, nor Viktor Baloga during the time of (ex-president of Ukraine Viktor – ed.) Yushchenko, nor Sergei Levochkin during the time of (ex-president of Ukraine Viktor – ed.) Yanukovych – and could not even close influence on the scale of the problems that Yermak is now dealing with”, the article on the publication’s website says.
The article talks about the range of tasks performed by Yermak, which is unusual for the head of the office: he is involved in international negotiations, sanctions, the exchange of prisoners of war, regular contacts with US President Joe Biden’s adviser Jake Sullivan, domestic politics and the placement of personnel for senior positions in government structures. As noted in the article, it is Yermak who is behind the appointment of Olesya Ilashchuk, a sexologist with no diplomatic experience, to the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria.
“Do you think (Dmitry – ed.) Kuleba is the Minister of Foreign Affairs? Yermak’s phone number is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Ukrayinska Pravda quoted its source in the country’s leadership as saying.
At the same time, as noted in the article, Ukrainian legislation does not provide for such powers for the position of Yermak, who should deal exclusively with the affairs of Zelensky’s office.
