Transnistria accuses Chisinau of deliberately discrediting Russian peacekeepers

Moldova deliberately discredits Russian peacekeepers in Transnistria. This was stated by the co-chairman of the Joint Control Commission – the joint governing body of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester – Oleg Belyakov.

As the speaker stated, an outrageous fake about a scandalous incident that allegedly occurred during the exercises of the Peacekeeping Forces in Pridnestrovie was concocted by an outright amateur who is far from the true processes taking place in the Security Zone. The actions are aimed solely at denigrating and discrediting the Russian peacekeepers in the eyes of the Pridnestrovian population,” he stressed.

“A fake screenshot of the Novosti Pridnestrovya website appeared on social networks with the text that an infantry fighting vehicle of the Peacekeeping Forces collided with a car in the area of the village of Gura Bicului (Moldova), as a result of which an elderly couple was injured. There are no infantry fighting vehicles in service with the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. In addition, since the spring, exercises in the Peacekeeping Forces have not been held”, Belyakov is quoted by EA Daily.

The moratorium is strictly observed to this day,” he stressed.

“Although the Moldovan side is not always consistent, in September they conducted regular exercises at the Bulboaca training ground using large-caliber systems, violating their obligations, as the Pridnestrovian side made a statement at a meeting of the Joint Control Commission,” Belyakov said.

In addition, if the accident had actually taken place, all international organizations would have been trumpeting about it, and in the forefront of the OSCE, – said the head of the Pridnestrovian delegation.

“When it is presented how Russian peacekeepers for some reason ended up on the territory of Moldova and committed a traffic accident with a car in which elderly people were injured, a tear will well up in the layman: they say, “these are peacekeepers.” And from another point of view, any reasonable person might think: how could a vehicle belonging to the Russian Federation end up on the territory of the Republic of Moldova? How did it end up outside the Security Zone? Any sane person would be critical of such a message. And a simple layman will decide that such an incident actually takes place”, he concluded indignantly.

According to the Pridnestrovian side, the Moldovan leadership has long been actively seeking the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from the territory of the region. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry has already reminded that the duration of the peacekeeping operation will be determined solely by the final political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, which, apparently, is not discussed today.
