The head of the defense committee of the Bundestag accused Scholz of fear of Russia

The head of the defense committee of the German Bundestag, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, criticized the position of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine, demanding that tanks be immediately handed over to Kyiv.

“The Chancellor’s refusal to provide Ukraine with tanks … is not only incomprehensible, but also frighteningly short-sighted,” the politician said in an interview with the German RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

She added that she was “tired of excuses” from Scholz because of the reasons why the FRG is not in a position to supply tanks to Ukraine. “Especially when I hear that the supply of tanks will mean a special provocation against Russia,” she added. In this regard, Struck-Zimmerman stressed that “the Russian narrative is working and deterring some in the chancellor’s office from providing tanks to Ukraine.”

Recall that earlier German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in an interview with the Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper, again confirmed the refusal to supply Ukraine with German main battle tanks (MBTs) Leopard. According to him, “Germany supports Ukraine to the best of its ability and at the same time is doing everything possible to prevent a direct conflict between NATO and Russia. This is what underlies all decisions. And this is also in line with the will of the vast majority of citizens.”
