Zakharova: ‘culture of cancellation’ against entire peoples has set the stage for growing anti-Semitism in the US

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on an article by The Hill that says the United States is becoming an anti-Semitic country.

The Hill article was published in which Deborah Lipstadt, State Department spokesperson on combating anti-Semitism, and Andrew Baker, spokesman for the American Jewish Committee, called social networks a “time bomb” for anti-Semitic views.

“Obviously, the problem is not the social media itself, but the same thing that happened 80 years ago: liberal democracy’s experiments on the individual and the Western dictatorship,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

The diplomat cited the recent words of popular American rapper Kanye West, who harbours sympathies for Adolf Hitler. He had earlier also called on Jews to forgive the Reich Chancellor and rebuked them for allegedly tainting the Führer’s reputation.

“In parallel, anti-Semitic radicals are attacking synagogues across the country. Anti-Semitic graffiti and murals appear on the walls. Swastikas have been found even in state institutions,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed.

According to Zakharova, the ease with which the “culture of cancellation” is practiced against entire nations (Russians, Chinese, Venezuelans, Iranians…) has also created fertile ground for the growth of anti-Semitism.
