International partners have announced aid to Ukraine’s energy system worth almost $1.5 billion, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.
“Assistance to the energy sector from partners is gaining momentum. We have declared assistance in the amount of almost $1.5 billion. Every day additional equipment arrives to repair the damaged infrastructure,” he wrote on his Facebook page*.
Shmygal also said that more than 200 cargoes of energy equipment have already arrived in Ukraine.
The Russian Armed Forces started striking Ukrainian infrastructure on 10 October, two days after the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, which, according to Russian authorities, was backed by Ukrainian special services. The strikes targeted energy, defence, military and communications facilities across the country. After the strikes on 15 November, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said that almost half of the country’s energy system was out of order. In December, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that it was now impossible to fully restore the Ukrainian energy system.
