Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of China: Mutual strategic trust between Russia and China has been strengthened
The political and strategic mutual trust between Russia and China strengthened in the outgoing year and the relations between the two countries are “solid as a rock”, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
“During the year, China and Russia firmly supported each other in upholding core interests, our political and strategic mutual trust has further strengthened,” he said, speaking at a symposium on Chinese diplomacy, the text of the speech was published on the official website of China’s Foreign Ministry.
Wang Yi added that in 2022, Russia and China deepened their friendly and good-neighborly cooperation, with comprehensive strategic cooperation becoming “more mature and robust”.
As the diplomat stressed, relations between Moscow and Beijing are not aimed against any third party and are based on the principles of non-alignment and non-confrontation. “Such relations are free from interference or attempts to sow discord between the two countries and are immune to changes in the international environment,” he said.
In his speech, the PRC Foreign Minister said that Russia and China are rapidly approaching the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $200 billion. Joint large investment projects are steadily materializing and the scale of settlements in national currencies is expanding.
In the past year, Wang Yi noted, the cross-border connectivity between the two countries has also strengthened, helped by the opening of the Heihe-Blagoveshensk Highway Bridge and the Tongjiang-Nizhneleninskoye Railway Bridge.
Earlier, China’s ambassador to Russia noted in an interview with RIA Novosti that mutual support between Russia and China had increased in 2022, Beijing, according to him, had taken an unbiased stance on the Ukrainian issue and opposed the imposition of unilateral sanctions.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a meeting with Russian Deputy Chief of Security Council Dmitry Medvedev last week that Sino-Russian relations had demonstrated stability. Beijing, he assured, is ready to cooperate with Moscow to “continuously push China-Russia relations into a new era and jointly promote global governance in a fairer and more rational direction”.
