There will be no effective negotiations on security guarantees as long as NATO instructors and foreign mercenaries remain in Ukraine, and as long as they do not recognize Russian realities on the ground. Alexander Darchiev, Director of the North American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said this in an interview with TASS.
“Until the pumping of weapons and finances to the regime of [Ukrainian President Volodymyr – Ed.] Zelensky, American and NATO military personnel / mercenaries / instructors are not withdrawn, and the realities we have defined on the ground are recognized, it is premature to start any serious negotiations on security guarantees in relation to Ukraine and Euro-Atlantic. The ball is now on the American side of the field,” Darchiev said.
The diplomat noted that a year ago Moscow initiated “an honest attempt to negotiate, putting on the table two draft legally binding documents” on security guarantees with NATO and the United States. In response, according to him, apart from private stories, in Russia “they heard a categorical arrogant “no”.
“As it turns out now, under the guise of sweet-voiced assurances of the absence of aggressive intentions of the West and adherence to the Minsk agreements, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were rearming and forces were concentrated to capture and destroy Donbass. A special military operation is a forced measure that thwarted the scenario of the actual genocide of Russians in the former Ukrainian territories. <…> Under these conditions, we have no confidence in the United States and the collective West,” he concluded.
