Germany is restoring the performance of some coal-fired power plants. It is reported by Bloomberg.
The German government has decided to return fossil fuels, despite the promise to achieve climate goals. Due to the economic situation in the country, the government is trying to prevent a rapid rise in energy prices.
The agency reports that the volume of electricity consumed in the third quarter was 13.3 percent more than in the same period a year ago.
Despite the current situation, the country is not backing down on its pledge to phase out coal by 2030. But now the priority of the country’s authorities is aimed at supplying electricity to its citizens.
“We don’t stop sticking to our climate goals, but when we were faced with the challenge of keeping the lights on or cutting back on carbon emissions, we chose light,” says the International Energy Agency.
