The Network reported that the son of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump Jr., was the first to pay attention to this. On a personal page on one social network, he called the NYT crossword disgusting. Trump Jr. noted that only this newspaper is capable of doing this on Hanukkah. He wondered what the editors of the publication would do with those who did not want to adhere to the same point of view as them.

The publication got on the discussion and in the Russian segment of the Network. “The symbol of Nazism, eight letters”: The New York Times caused a scandal by publishing a crossword puzzle on the first day of Hanukkah, on which a swastika is visible”, wrote the Telegram channel of Russian journalist Dmitry Smirnov. The Militarist Telegram channel, in turn, noted that the New York Times “successfully picked up a crossword puzzle on the first day of Hanukkah.”

The Sputnik Belarus Telegram channel, referring to the Jerusalem Post, wrote that the NYT draws such patterns on a regular basis: at least in 2014 and 2017. It is noted that in 2017 the newspaper even had to make excuses and say that this is not a swastika.
