The attempt by the European Union to set a ceiling on gas prices is contrary to the world principles of free trade and will lead to the degradation of markets. This was stated by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Yury Sentyurin in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“There may be various crazy ideas on this matter, these are definitely measures that cannot be classified as market ones. These are counter market instruments. In my opinion, all this leads to such an unpleasant consequence as the degradation of markets. Refusal, violation of international law,” he said.
According to the diplomat, such initiatives destabilize world markets, increasing the level of uncertainty.
Recall that today at a meeting of energy ministers of EU countries is expected to discuss the issue of the maximum price for natural gas. Earlier, Vladimir Putin, in a commentary on the West’s initiative to impose a price cap on Russian energy resources, said that Moscow would not supply anything abroad if it ran counter to its own interests.
