Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder, responding to a request for comment on Moscow’s warnings about the possible transfer of Patriot systems to Ukraine, began reassuring those present that the US was not at war with Russia and avoided engaging in such a conflict.
“The US is not at war with Russia, we are not looking for a conflict, we are focused on providing defence assistance to Ukraine,” Ryder said at the press conference (quoted by RIA Novosti).
Separately, he noted that Washington “will not allow comments from Russia to dictate what defense assistance to provide to Ukraine.” Ryder insisted that he would not comment on the very possibility of transferring Patriot systems to Ukraine, stressing that there was nothing to announce in this regard yet.
