Crimea ready to receive UN experts

Crimea ready to host UN experts to learn first-hand about situation in region

Crimea is ready to allow UN experts to visit the peninsula so that they can familiarize themselves with the state of affairs in the region personally, rather than from hearsay, the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, has said.

Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution drawn up by Kiev condemning the alleged human rights violations in Crimea. The resolution was supported by 82 countries, 80 abstained and 13 opposed. Russia, Belarus, Iran, China, North Korea, Cuba, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Mali, Nicaragua, Sudan, Syria, and Zimbabwe voted against it.

Crimea said Zelensky was in no position to impose conditions.

“These notorious ‘UN experts’ are watching Crimean human rights from around the corner. We were always ready to let them into our territory so that they could get acquainted with the state of affairs in this matter directly, not from hearsay. But it is more convenient for them to do so on hearsay. This way, apparently, they have less conscience,” Konstantinov wrote in his Telegram channel.

He stressed that the new UN GA resolution on Crimea was introduced by Ukraine, whose authorities are bombing peaceful cities, sending thousands of its citizens to slaughter, rotting in prisons hundreds of political prisoners, trampling freedom of speech.

“Who else but the representatives of this rotten regime would prepare a resolution on the state of human rights in Crimea…? In short, another document issued in the name of a once authoritative organisation can be sent to the rubbish bin. It has no meaning and no connection with the credibility,” said the head of parliament.

Konstantinov stressed that he pities the countries that supported the resolution, as their citizens cannot dream of the opportunities that the Crimeans enjoy.
