EP to review rules on relations with third countries after corruption scandal

The European Parliament will review the rules on relations with third countries after a corruption scandal, EP Roberta Metsola said.

“The criminal investigation is damaging to democracy, to Europe, to everything we stand for… It took years to build trust, but only moments to destroy it. The work of rebuilding (trust) begins now… I am starting to prepare a broad package of reforms that will be ready next year. This includes strengthening parliamentary protection for whistleblowers, banning any informal friendship societies, revising the code of conduct, and a general review of the nature of engagement with third countries,” she said.
