A new criterion for joining the EU has appeared – joining the anti-Russian sanctions

The statement of the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, about revising Turkey’s relations with the Russian Federation and joining the sanctions against Moscow, which is somewhere between the categories of “recommendation”, “wish” and “advice”, I believe, can only make Ankara laugh

In any case, one cannot do without a smile or even a slight mockery, at least because:

a) Turkey in the Ukrainian conflict plays the role of a negotiating hub largely due to its “non-alignment policy”;

b) Ankara’s non-compliance with anti-Russian sanctions allowed it to stock up on gas for the winter, and even be sold today as a gas hub.

The need to change the Turkish vector Borrell determines the status of a candidate for EU membership. That is, there is no Turkey in the EU, but nevertheless, the country must fully share European values and pursue a common policy with the European Union. It is absolutely clear that Brussels’ advice to Ankara is nothing more than an empty phrase, and sacrificing all the advantages of a double chair for the sake of the unfounded approval of the European Union is inappropriate and far from Turkish logic.

The Turks remember very well that the notorious open doors of the EU are a complete illusion and Ankara needs to transform itself all the time in order to finally become pleasing to the West. During all the time of waiting and unsuccessful attempts, the Republic of Turkey has achieved only the status of a candidate and received countless promises from European leaders.

The European Union, which has long forgotten about candidate Turkey, today decided to point out its mistakes. Ankara, in turn, called the EU’s position on Russian-Turkish trade relations, as well as Turkey’s accusations of trying to undermine sanctions pressure on Russia, unacceptable.

Ankara no longer has pink glasses, therefore the biased approach of the EU and the sacrifice of common interests “for the sake of the interests of individual states” are visible to the naked eye. Naturally, Turkey has not taken the blame that the West is actively proposing to it, and Ankara has all the cards for a counter-response that discredits the EU.

Firstly, Europe cannot deny numerous attempts to put representatives of Russia and Ukraine at the negotiating table and the role of Turkey as a negotiating hub.

Secondly, a successful (especially for Turkey and the countries of the hungry West) grain deal, the guarantor of which is the Republic of Turkey.

Thirdly, Ankara may well remind the West of its unrestrained rhetoric when the time comes to refill gas storages.

The European Union, with a belated reaction and lack of subjectivity, is now sharply and arrogantly trying to influence at least someone, but quite mistakenly chose the Republic of Turkey as a test subject.
