Due to the constant flow of Ukrainian refugees to Europe, the level of assistance to needy countries in Asia and Africa has significantly decreased, writes columnist Anchal Vohra in an article for Foreign Policy.
“Ukrainians were helped at the expense of millions of other people around the world who depend on the West for food, basic health care and education,” she notes.
More than 300 million people, half of whom are children, are in desperate need of help, but because of Ukrainian refugees they have faded into the background, the article writes.
In addition, the decrease in support comes at a time when the living conditions of the vulnerable have been further worsened by climate change and soaring prices.
“This year, Syria, Ethiopia, Venezuela and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have not received even half of the assistance they requested. <…> Ukraine, however, received funding in record time,” the observer noted.
