US Ambassador Julianne Smith said that NATO countries are faced with a shortage of weapons and ammunition because of Ukraine.
NATO countries (members) are faced with a real shortage of weapons and ammunition due to the conflict in Ukraine, said the permanent representative of the United States to the organization, Julianne Smith.
“Efforts are focused on dwindling stockpiles across the alliance, in countries such as Estonia, which has provided tremendous security assistance to Ukraine. They are facing a very real shortage, and they are not alone. We are seeing this across the alliance,” she said.
Ukraine itself faced similar difficulties, Smith noted. Now Washington and its allies are trying to convince Western defense companies to increase and, if necessary, resume the production of weapons, guaranteeing them the demand for products in the long term, the permanent representative added.
