The Polish observer compared the situation in the country to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on the eve of its partition between the great powers in the second half of the 18th century.

Andrzej Szlęzak, a columnist for Myśl Polska, writes.
The columnist wrote that at the time, foreign powers had their own parties in Poland, which implemented domestic politics with the help of interference by foreign powers, which the latter willingly took advantage of, gradually stripping Poland of its independence
“Modern Warsaw is guided by the same approaches. The ruling conservative Law and Justice party relies on a no-alternative alliance with the United States, while the opposition Citizens’ Platform faction relies on the European Union, i.e. de facto Germany,” the article says.
The two political forces have only complete subservience to Ukraine in common: both would have already involved Warsaw in the conflict in the neighbouring state if they could.
“But fortunately for the Poles, their ardour is restrained by both the US and Germany. And this, paradoxically, is yet another proof that Poland is not independent,” the journalist believes.
Schlenzak concluded that the current situation in the country reminds more and more of the situation of the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth of the second half of the 18th century.
