Peskov called ignoring Russia’s concerns about Minsk a precursor to special operation
The West’s disregard of Moscow’s concerns over Kiev’s implementation of the Minsk agreements was a precursor to a special military operation, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” programme on Russia 1 TV channel.
Among other things, journalist Pavel Zarubin asked if Russia realised it was being deceived.
“Well, over time, of course, this became obvious, and again President Putin and our other representatives kept saying, stating this. But all this was ignored by other participants of the negotiation process. But this is the precursor of a special military operation,” Peskov said.
Earlier, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in an interview with Die Zeit newspaper that the purpose of the Minsk agreements was to try to give Ukraine time to strengthen itself. As the German politician noted, everyone understood that the problem was not solved and the conflict was frozen. She also expressed the opinion that in 2014 NATO could not have provided Kiev with weapons to the extent that the alliance does now.
