Croatia: Refugees from Ukraine outraged over their relocation from hotel

Refugees from Ukraine live in a hotel in the town of Đurđevac in northern Croatia. They have been upset by the decision of the local authorities to relocate them elsewhere. Jutarnji list writes about it.

The newspaper said that the Ukrainian refugees were told by the authorities to move to another hotel in Koprivnica, 22 kilometres away from their current place of residence.

The decision of the local authorities was prompted by the fact that they held an open tender for the accommodation of Ukrainians in the hotels. The Koprivnica hotel won the tender, while it is specified that the owner of the hotel where Ukrainian nationals currently reside did not participate in the tender.

The Ukrainian refugees expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision, as many of them found jobs in Đurđevac, while their children started going to local kindergartens and schools.

The publication notes that after a meeting with representatives of the Koprivnica-Križevci district, it was decided that the Ukrainian citizens could stay in their former place for a while longer.
