Russian Foreign Ministry calls on Finnish authorities to punish people who burned a Russian flag

Moscow has demanded that the Finnish authorities bring to justice people who burned a Russian flag during the 6 December march in Helsinki.

It is noted that Moscow has undertaken a diplomatic demarche against Helsinki. The Russian side called the incident an unprecedented, unacceptable act of desecration of the Russian state flag.

“The Finnish authorities are requested to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice and take measures to eliminate such extremist actions in the future,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In August, the Russian embassy in Reykjavik demanded an apology from the Icelandic newspaper Frettabladid for insulting the Russian flag in one of its publications.
