Lavrov: No geopolitical gamesmanship in idea of gas union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Kazakhstan’s Khabar 24 TV channel that there is no geopolitical game in the idea of creating a gas union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

“Analysts, especially in the West, immediately began to say that this is some kind of political or geopolitical game. There is no game here,” he said.

Lavrov also noted that the day before, he had read a report that there was a “sharp power shortage” in Uzbekistan.

He said this is a concrete example of when you need to use the advantages of states to resolve issues in the interests of citizens “without any politicisation”.

Earlier, Reuters quoted Uzbek Energy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov as saying that the country had rejected the initiative of a triple gas union with Russia and Kazakhstan.
