WSJ: US plans to impose new restrictions on Russia and China

The US is set to introduce new sanctions against Russia and China on Friday over alleged human rights abuses and Beijing’s support for alleged illegal fishing in the Pacific Ocean. The Wall Street Journal reported this on Thursday, citing sources.

According to them, the restrictions plan to freeze the assets in the US of high-ranking government and military officials, as well as members of the business community accused of alleged corruption and human rights violations. They will also be restricted from entering the US and prohibited from having business dealings with them.

In addition, the new restrictions could make it more difficult for sanctioned government officials and businessmen to travel and finance internationally, the newspaper noted. The US administration is also planning to impose sanctions against several Russian defence enterprises and the Russian CEC.

At the same time, US President Joe Biden’s administration intends to impose restrictions on nearly 170 major Chinese entities allegedly involved in illegal fishing in the Pacific Ocean.
