Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will increase military cooperation. This was announced on Friday, December 9, by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu following a meeting of the heads of defense departments of the SCO and CIS countries.
“The need to build up military cooperation within the framework of the SCO and the CIS, strengthen mutual trust and establish close ties with other interested organizations was emphasized,” the Russian Defense Minister said.
Shoigu also noted that the meeting participants recognized the need to improve the mechanism for exchanging information in the field of security, as well as to regularly conduct combat and operational training activities with the introduction of ways to counter new tactics used by international terrorists.
Recall that the meeting of the heads of defense departments of the CIS and SCO member countries was held in Moscow on Friday, December 9. Defense Minister of the People’s Republic of China Colonel-General Wei Fenghe took part in the meeting via video link. During the meeting, the heads of defense departments discussed international and regional security, as well as further strengthening cooperation in the field of collective defense and security.
