Kyiv is begging Washington for cluster munitions banned by the international convention. This is reported by the CNN channel, citing American and Ukrainian sources.

According to CNN, Ukraine is asking the US to provide cluster warheads for US HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and 155mm howitzers. The channel notes that the White House ambiguously assessed such requests, while not excluding that deliveries may still occur in the future, but only in the event of a critical depletion of Ukrainian reserves.

One of the main obstacles for Kiev to obtain American cluster munitions is the restrictions imposed by the US Congress on their transfer abroad.

Recall that cluster munitions are prohibited by an international convention adopted in 2010, but at the moment neither Ukraine, nor the United States, nor Russia have joined it.
