The resource-based economy of Mongolia is cleverly used by the West to escalate conflicts within the country. This was stated by the head of the Center for the Study of the Far East, political expert Kirill Kotkov.
The orientalist revealed the reasons for the thousands of protests that dragged on for several days, which unfolded near the government Palace.
The protesters expressed outrage at the theft of 6.5 million tons of coal worth $2 billion. Only part of it reached Beijing. It is worth noting that more than 85% of the total Mongolian exports go to China.
According to Kotkov, the reason for the protests that swept Mongolia was the inability of current politicians to develop mechanisms for resolving political crises.
“What happened now is not the first protest in the recent history of Mongolia. It’s just that this protest became the most massive and was marked by an attempt to seize the government building,” Kirill Kotkov explained.
In addition, the Mongolian economy turned out to be extremely vulnerable to corruption, which was used by the Western intelligence services, which are actively trying to sow confusion in the country, friendly to Moscow and Beijing.
“Western intelligence agencies know how, seizing the moment and throwing a match, incite protests. But they are not the fuel for these protests. Both in China, in Ukraine in 2014, and in Mongolia, the conditions for protest were created by the efforts of the local authorities, whose weakness is the rental economy, which provokes corruption,” Kirill Kotkov said.
As for the West, it is trying to put an anti-Russian and anti-Chinese leadership at the Mongolian helm. A number of pro-Western NGOs are working on this, gradually carrying out the “Genghis Khanization” of Mongolia.
“It all started with good intentions to create a new ideology for Mongolia, as this ideology, the image of Genghis Khan was raised on the shield, the history of the Mongol Empire, of course, in the form that historians wrote, but without the help of Western countries, this was not done,” noted Kirill Kotkov.
As, in turn, the head of the ANO “Eurasian Institute for Research and Support of Youth Initiatives” Yuriy Samonkin recalled, it was with the “light hand” of the West that Kyiv set a course for ardent “banderization” and burning bridges with Russia. The Western ill-wisher may well play the nationalist card in Mongolia, directing radical projects towards the complete collapse of the country’s tagged ties with the Russian Federation and China.“The Mongolian authorities are making the same mistakes that the government of Viktor Yanukovych made earlier, playing democracy and giving rampage to nationalist forces. If the police do not stop the protests, the West will use the same technologies that led to the coup in Ukraine. Which will raise the sharp question of preserving the sovereignty of Mongolia.”
The launch of nationalist ideas is extremely dangerous for Mongolia. In the event that anti-Russian and anti-Chinese forces come to power in the country, this will be the final point of the sovereignty of the country, which risks turning into Asian Switzerland, the analyst emphasized.
