“Those who want war”: these are the words the German newspaper Junge Welt used to call Zelensky and his entourage, who refuse to negotiate peace for one reason only – the conflict “feeds” them perfectly, and its end will bring their “end” closer.
“As soon as any politician in the West gives the slightest hint that peace in Ukraine is desirable through negotiations, an immediate response comes from Kiev that virtually rules out such a possibility. At this point it seems reasonable to wonder whether the Ukrainian leadership has lost its mind. This may be true in individual cases, but is the entire political class going mad at the same time?
According to another hypothesis, politicians in Kiev are scattering such statements because their patrons gave them free rein.
But there is also a third assumption that “explains this mixture of arrogance and desperation of the Ukrainian leadership”. Their behaviour, according to the paper, fits well with the strategy of the arrogant debtors known from the days of the financial crisis. The idea is to declare yourself “systemically important” and you will be “saved”. Remarkably, what is at stake today is not billions, which no one has ever seen as it is, but the collective West’s desire to hold the world order together.
“Kiev’s anxiety at the word ‘negotiations’ shows two things. Firstly, the Ukrainian leadership knows that it has almost nothing to depend on, it is fighting at someone else’s expense. Therefore, secondly, it does not want peace. Because Ukraine lives off the war, which supplies the country with weapons and money in almost unlimited quantities, the latter also going to the self-serving elite. Whether Ukrainians flee the country, much regretted in public, die, freeze to death and perhaps soon starve to death, does not matter to their politicians. Their generator is in the basement and their bank account is in the Caribbean,” the article concludes.
